ABSTRACT’S & BIO’S
Title: Building SOA Applications with DB2
Abstract:
SOA is the latest buzzword in IT. The pundits would let you believe that SOA is nothing short of a revolution and you will have to acquire the whole new skill set and computing infrastructure. We in DB2 believe that SOA is indeed a revolution but it is one for which DB2 is already architects for. This presentation will describe how you can get started with SOA with the DB2 infrastructure and skill that you have today. Learn how to expose information as a service to SOA applications and how to integrate data delivered by web services in to DB2.
Speaker Biography:
Leon Katsnelson is Program Director in the DB2 Competitive Technologies area for IBM at the IBM Toronto Lab. He is a recognized expert in the areas of DB2 Application Development and DB2 Connect. Leon has 21 years of experience with complex database and network systems. Leon frequently presents his experiences at user group meetings and industry conferences.
Title: Snapshot Monitoring and/or DB2PD- Getting the best performance information!
Abstract:
Since DB2 V8.2 (Stinger) there are new performance informants. The db2 command db2pd provides excellent performance data and doesn’t use any DB2 engine resources. From Fixpak to Fixpak and with Version 9 more performance data can be delivered by db2pd. Therefore the question, “Can db2pd replace the snapshot monitoring?”, is most interesting to the DBA.
Speaker Biography:
Thomas Kalb is one of the CEOs, the CTO and founders of itgain an international DB2 software and consulting company. He is the key architect of Speedgain DB2 UDB and the Speedgain Gateway Connect Monitor for comprehensive historic, real-time and threshold reporting for LUW and the DB2 Gateway. Thomas began working with DB2 z/OS V1.3 in 1990 and distributed DB2 OS2 in 1996. Thomas has performed many consulting studies for major corporations and has been a frequent speaker at many local area DB2 user groups as well as IDUG North America and Europe.
Title: Title: DB2 9 - The Next Generation
Abstract:
This will be an overview of DB2’s most significant new version ever. DB2 9, previously code named “Viper”, provides significant business value including a review of our storage optimization, gaining the most of your SAP environment and our new pureXML capabilities. We will also discuss how DB2 9 can help with regulatory compliance, data auditing, business intelligence, availability and the new real time insite feature.
Speaker Biography:
Les King began working with DB2 on the open platforms, in 1992 as a member of the customer support team for the first versions. He’s spent time as a developer on DB2 and as a member of the release team, project managing the releases of DB2. Les’s management career began back in the customer support team in 1996 and he also spent several years managing various development teams for DB2, including the install team and the application development interface teams. Les then became the planning manager and has had responsibility for the Information Development team. Les is now the Program Director for Portfolio Management of the Data Servers, within Information Management.
Title: Playing Hide and Seek With Your Applications
Abstract:
There is a lot of information hidden in your load modules that can help you with many tasks:
- Migrating to LE,
- Upgrading to new LE conforming compilers
- Exploiting new function provided by LE, the compilers, subsystems such as CICS or z/OS, and subsystems such as CICS, DB2 or IMS
- Debugging code and system problems
You may need to identify components that require updates just to execute or to take advantage of new facilities. For CICS TS V3.1, you may need to upgrade to a new compiler for the program to even execute. For DB2 V8, you will need to use the most recent versions of the COBOL and/or PL/I compilers. Maybe there are prerequisite PTFs or user fixes that must be applied to your system. Some may require relinking so statically linked components are updated. During the upgrade process, you may do regression testing or only general problem solving. Information buried in your load modules can be very helpful and may even allow you to automate some of the steps.
There are many unique LE related issues or characteristics associated with your DB2, CICS and IMS applications that require investigation. In addition, they’re also unique COBOL, PL/I Assembler and Fortran language issues or characteristics that must be addressed.
In this session, you will discover many interesting attributes that can be found in your load modules. While some of this information can be found using various system utilities, we will use reports from the Edge Portfolio Analyzer to show you how to both extract this information and then use exception reporting to make your migrations, upgrades and problem solving tasks easier and more accurate.
