You Can Do What….. IMS Part 2

November 7th, 2006 by admin · No Comments

If you weren’t with us on November 7th then you missed out on the following:

  • Suzie Wendler - a Consulting I/T Specialist in the IMS Advanced Technical Support group of the IBM Dallas Systems Center - showed us that despite the numerous ways we can access mainframe applications with the web there is only one right way.
  • Jack Olsen of NEON Enterprise software continued his June 8th presentation, “Managing Data for Long Retention Periods: Requirements and Challenges”.
  • Rick Engel - IBM IMS Tools and Field Tech Support - showed us how IMS Problem Investigator makes extracting and formatting IMS log records much easier and logical.
  • And, Bob Aubrech - NEON Enterprise Software as a Senior Software Consultant - showed us how NEON’s HALO (High Availability, Low Outage) product allows us to minimize outages associated with any database conversion or restructuring.

Do You Know What’s In Your Load Modules?

November 3rd, 2006 by admin · No Comments

Carl Gehr addressing the November 2, 2006 Tridex meeting. If you’re not certain then you’re unsure about everything that’s in production. Carl Gehr showed us why it is important that we can answer this question definitively.
Looking into your load modules provides a wealth of information that can help you with:

  • Debugging code and system problems
  • Upgrading to new LE conforming compilers
  • Exploiting new function provided by LE, the compilers, subsystems such as CICS or z/OS, and subsystems such as CICS, DB2 or IMS
  • satisfying increased compliance demands
  • Additionally, those that are part of a DB2/CICS learned why it is doubly important that they audit load module information. For starters DB2 and CICS is tied at the hip by COBOL. And, most importantly CICS TS V3.1 requires COBOL LE - period.

  • readdresses storage optimization,
  • allows you to gain the most of your SAP environment,
  • and has new pureXML capabilities.
  • Oh… Les also showed how it will help you with regulatory compliance, data auditing, and business intelligence.

How to Get the Best DB2 Performance Information

November 3rd, 2006 by admin · No Comments

Thomas Kalb - one of itgain's CEOs, CTO and founder - presenting at the November 2, 2006 Tridex meeting.Thomas Kalb - one of the founders of itgain an international DB2 software and consulting company - posed the question: “Can db2pd replace snapshot monitoring?”.

The answer; with the introduction of DB2 V8.2 (Stinger) there are new performance informants. This means the DBAs can extract excellent performance data without consuming incremental DB2 engine resources via the db2pd command.
